    • Introduction and Benefits

Effective project management is a cornerstone of successful digital transformation. While many organisations focus on technology or innovation, it's often the structured planning, coordination, and execution of change that determines whether a transformation effort actually delivers results. Project management ensures that digital initiatives remain on track, within budget, and aligned with strategic goals.

In this learning unit, you will explore how both traditional and agile project management methods can support your organisation’s digital transformation process – from defining scope and deliverables to planning workflows and managing risks. You will also learn how to apply tools like PM² or Scrum in practice, and how to choose the right approach for your specific project environment.

Why read on? Why is project management helpful?

      • You will learn the key concepts and differences between traditional and agile project management

      • You will be able to define the scope of your own digital transformation project

      • You will understand how to select a project methodology that matches your needs

      • You will gain tools and structures to plan, monitor, and evaluate your project

P3.express – The minimalist project management system: https://p3.express/

P3.express is a minimalist, practical project management system. It’s easy to learn, easy to use, and easy to teach. P3.express is open and free, with a Creative Commons licence.

Because despite the existence of fundamental systems such as PRINCE2® and the PMBOK® Guide, most projects are run intuitively, without the help of a structured project management system. This is the case because the fundamental standards, while invaluable, are too complex for normal projects.

Imagine all the people who use Excel. What happens if you replace Excel with a programming language? Most people won’t be able to use it, and they will be left without a tool, even though a programming language is more capable than Excel.

The fundamental project management systems are all like programming languages, and what people need most in projects is something like Excel. P3.express is that simple tool that most people can use.

P3.express uses a cyclical system to make the activities simpler and more regular. There are monthly, weekly, and daily cycles, each of which focused on one aspect of managerial activities.

In addition to the cycles, there’s a project initiation activity group run at the beginning, and a project closure group at the end.

Finally, there’s a post-project management group: a cycle run after the project is finished, to evaluate the benefits.

Besides the process, there are 4 management documents and a number of roles.

P3.express is fully described in its online manual.

    • Introduction and Benefits

Risk management is a key element for the success of any project, especially during digital transformation processes. A risk is an uncertain event or condition that may have either a positive or negative impact on project objectives. Managing these risks in a structured way helps prevent delays, budget overruns, and quality issues.

In this learning unit, you will learn how to identify, assess and respond to risks in your project. You will be introduced to practical tools such as stakeholder analysis, risk mapping, and appropriate response strategies – all aimed at reducing uncertainty and supporting a successful digital transformation.

Why read on? Why is risk management helpful?

      • You will learn what risks are and how they appear in projects

      • You will be able to identify and evaluate risks systematically

      • You will explore strategies such as risk avoidance, mitigation, transfer or acceptance

      • You will strengthen your ability to make informed decisions under uncertainty

      • You will improve your project planning and execution

      • You will increase your organisation’s resilience to change and disruption

    • Introduction and Benefits

A key element in the implementation of a successful digital transformation process is an effective change management. Change management refers to all approaches used to prepare and support organisations when making fundamental structural changes. Change management focuses on the stages that companies go through as they develop, something which is unavoidable if companies want to survive and be successful. The principles of change management can be applied to both short-term and long-term changes, whether big and small. Digital transformation is probably the most important and disruptive organisational change to happen in recent times. The best strategy for a digital transformation can only lead to success if those involved can also apply it successfully in their own SME, and this is precisely where "change management expertise” comes into play.

In this learning unit we will show you how to master the key challenges of a process of change and thereby prepare you for the implementation phase of your digital transformation.

Why read on? Why is change management helpful?

      • You will learn about the prerequisites of a successful process of change
      • You will get to know how to successfully implement a change management process, including your SME's  digital transformation process
      • You are able to drive forward your own change process together with your team and increase therefore your employees engagement
      • You will become less dependent on external consultancy
      • You reduce the risk of your change process failing

    • Introduction and Benefits

Knowledge management is the process of collecting, organising, storing, and utilising knowledge within an SME. It is implemented through various strategies, techniques, and tools that capture and structure existing knowledge, making it easily available to the right individuals. The aim is to efficiently make the existing knowledge and expertise of your team usable to enhance your organisation’s innovation potential, simplify routine processes, and expedite tasks.

In the context of digital transformation, especially for SMEs, knowledge management becomes even more critical. As SMEs undergo digital transformation, they face the challenge of integrating new technologies and processes with their existing operations. Effective knowledge management ensures that valuable insights and experiences are preserved and shared, reducing the learning curve for new digital tools and systems. It facilitates smoother transitions, minimises disruptions, and enables the organisation to leverage collective intelligence, thereby driving innovation and maintaining competitive advantage in a rapidly evolving digital landscape.

It is important to outline, that effective knowledge management forms the foundation for the future success of your SME. A primary challenge is that the ‘half-life’ of our knowledge is constantly decreasing. Existing knowledge in a specific field or domain tends to lose value at an increasingly rapid pace.

In this learning unit we will show you how to implement an effective knowledge management in your SME.

Why read on? Why is knowledge management helpful?

      • You are able to perform daily tasks and comprehensive projects like the digital transformation of your SME faster and more efficiently.
      • You are able to make well-informed decisions and solve problems more effectively.
      • You are able to enhance collaboration and communication within your team.
      • You are able to onboard new colleagues more easily with less need for direct support.
      • You are able to access results and learnings from past activities more easily
