      The initiation of a digital transformation process begins with a needs analysis. The first step is to carry out a PESTLE analysis. The PESTLE analysis provides SME and SMO with a comprehensive overview of their business and organisational environment. In order to be resilient as an SME and to continue to survive in a rapidly changing environment, it is essential to analyse the external influences that affect the SME at an early stage in order to be able to react to them in good time. This is precisely where the PESTLE analysis comes in. 

      In this learning unit, you will familiarise yourself with the PESTLE analysis method, apply it in part and receive valuable tips for using the PESTLE analysis in your daily work in your SME.

      Unit 3: Digital transformation - Needs analysis - Step 2 : GAP analysis 

      The initiation of a digital transformation process begins with a needs analysis. In step one, you have already carried out a PESTLE analysis. With the PESTLE you analysed the SME’s external environment. Now, it is time for step two: the GAP analysis. 

      The GAP analysis provides SMEs with a comprehensive overview of their internal strengths and weaknesses. In order to be resilient as an SME and to continue to thrive in a rapidly changing environment, it is essential to identify gaps between the objectives and actual performance, and to understand the underlying reasons for any deviations. This is precisely where the GAP analysis comes in.

      In this learning unit, you will familiarise yourself with the GAP analysis, apply it in part and receive valuable tips for using the GAP analysis in your daily work in your SME.

      The Business Model Canvas supports decision-making processes and serves as a springboard for new ideas and strategic adjustments. It is crucial to always start with the needs of your target group.

      The initiation of a digital transformation process begins with a needs analysis. To identify the current situation of your SME, you have already carried out a PESTLE and GAP analysis. After successfully analysing the current situation, the next step for an SME is to develop a new digital transformation strategy. The SWOT analysis is suitable for this.

      The SWOT analysis identifies an organisation's strengths and weaknesses and assesses external opportunities and threats. It provides a comprehensive view of internal and external factors, supporting informed strategic decisions. By promoting awareness and targeting resource use, SWOT helps organisations enhance competitiveness, minimise risks, and develop long-term strategies.
